ABOUT LYNN BASA
Lynn Basa’s abstractions reveal their history. Layers of paint build up on her surfaces never fully hiding the forms underneath. She plays with the seen and unseen, contemporary and ancient, impulse and conditioning. Edges are ever present, reminding the viewer there is always an initial form - the square of the canvas, the intricacies of her cutout works on paper - that each painterly move gets dictated by.
Basa received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her BA from Indiana University in Studio Art and Art History. Her work has been shown throughout America as well as internationally. She has taught sculpture at SAIC and is the author of The Artist’s Guide to Public Art: How to Find and Win Commissions. Lynn Basa currently resides in Chicago.
